About

This recipe came from the kitchen of Lorraine Picot, a holistic registered nutritional consultant. A great recipe for the holidays. Store in airtight containers, separating layers with wax paper. Will keep in refrigerator for several weeks or in the freezer for longer periods.

Ingredients

Dates 1 2/3 cups (1/2 lb)
Raisins 1 1/2 cups (1/2 lb)
Whole almonds 1/2 cup
Walnuts 1/2 cup
Crystallized ginger 1/3 cup
Finely grated orange peel from one orange
Orange or apricot juice, or brandyΒ  2 Tbsp

Variation

If preferred, you can replace the one cup of grated coconut with 1/2 cup sesame seeds.

Directions

  1. In a food processor, chop dates and raisins and pour into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Place almonds, walnuts, and ginger in food processor and chop coarsely. Add to date-raisin mixture.
  3. Add orange peel and brandy or juice. Blend together with a wooden spoon.
  4. In a shallow plate or tray, pour and spread out sesame seeds or shredded coconut.
  5. Form fruit mixture into little balls about 1″ in diameter. Roll each ball in sesame or coconut, coating well all around.
