About the Photos on this Site

About the Photos on this Site

I have been working hard the past few months moving recipes from the old site to this new one. I am now up to one hundred and eleven! Some of them are newer recipes which have accompanying photos taken by myself (or another member), while some are older and have stock photos added.

I started posting recipes in 1999 when most people did not have cell phones and digital cameras were not as common. So most of the recipes on the old site do not have photos of the actual final product. When I published them, I used photos of ingredients found from free sources like Wikimedia.

When moving them to the new RecipeNet.ca, I decided to get a Shutterstock subscription. I have been able to publish some lovely photos of ingredients (or kitchen equipment). A few are photos representing the final product. I only used those if the photo was fairly accurate in depicting how the final product should look. A disclaimer below these photos informs visitors that it’s not a picture of the exact recipe and that it was used for graphical enhancement.

Fruit & Nut Balls
This MorozNataliia photo from Shutterstock.com fairly accurately depicts how the recipe for Fruit and Nut Balls should look. This recipe was tested by member Helen B. a long time ago.

If I happen to make one of the older recipes again I will likely replace the Shutterstock photos with my own photo.

Warm Pumpkin Smoothie
This photo of my Warm Pumpkin Smoothie recipe is one I took myself. It is super yummy and great on a cold day!

Now that it’s 2018 and most people have cell phones with a camera, I expect most members will be able to send me photos of their actual recipes completed. One of the things I really like about this new site is that members can log in, submit a recipe and a attach a photo very easily!

Linguine Vegetable Lo Mein
This is photo of Linguine Vegetable Lo Mein was recently submitted by member Lynn R. It’s one of her favourite meatless entrees.

I should note that I am still using some photos from free sites. You can find some really nice ones if you look hard enough! The feature image of chestnuts located at the top of this post is by Pixaby and was found on Pexels.com. It’s a beautiful photo that I used with the Vegan Chestnut Soup recipe submitted by member Dorothy W.

Warm regards,

Robin L. Russell 🍏
