Collins Gem: Vegetarian Food

This pocket dictionary of vegetarian food is a gem indeed!  Often when people begin a vegetarian diet they enthusiastically acquire new recipes only to find there are numerous ingredients they’ve never heard of.  “Vegetarian Food” is a valuable addition to a new vegetarian kitchen.  It describes hundreds of vegetarian foodstuffs, with information on preparation, uses and nutrition.  It “covers vegetables, fruit, herbs, spices and drinks, from the common to the exotic.”  Both lacto-ovo vegetarians and vegans will find useful information in this book as they start and continue their dietary paths.

Update, 2005

I first wrote this review in the Spring of 1999. Unfortunately, six years later, this wonderful little book is out of print, but you may have some luck getting a second hand copy.
