Breaded Venison Steaks in Wine

If you like venison you will love this recipe! The red wine, onions and mushrooms all work to beautifully enhance the flavour of the meat. The wine also helps tenderize the steaks.

Ingredients

Venison round steaks 4 - 8 ea
Egg, beaten 1 ea
Cracker crumbs 1 cup
Flour 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Cooking oil 4 Tbsp
Onion, chopped 1 ea
Mushrooms 1 can drained or 1 cup fresh
Red wine 1 cup

Directions

  1. Mix cracker crumbs and flour together and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  2. Dip steaks in egg and roll in mixture of crumbs and flour.
  3. In frying pan, brown steaks in oil. Place in baking dish. Cover with onion, mushrooms, & wine.
  4. Bake covered at 350 degrees for 1.5 hours.

Editor’s Notes

  1. If you are following a wheat-free or gluten-free diet choose appropriate flour and cracker crumbs.
  2. If you tolerate gluten but not wheat you could try our recipe for Spelt Crackers.
  3. If you are avoiding all grains consider trying this recipe without breading.
