Farm Boy main course salads make quick & healthy dinners!

Farm Boy is a growing Ontario-based supermarket chain that focuses on produce and other whole foods. I’ve had the opportunity to try a few of their main course salads. They are fresh and delicious! If you don’t have time to prep all the ingredients for a salad like this, their ready-made options can be very handy.

The one featured above is their Harvest Grain Bowl 🔍, an excellent choice for a plant-based diet. It has lots of vegetables, including greens, beets and sweet potatoes. For protein there is quinoa and pumpkin seeds. The dried cranberries add an extra bit of zing.

Below is the Chicken Cobb Bowl, featuring greens, grape tomatoes, chicken, bacon, cheese and hard-boiled egg. It’s suitable for the Keto or Paleo diet. I find it very tasty but I remove the onions as they give me heartburn. I can tolerate cooked onion so next time I might zap them in the microwave and add them back in.

Next is the protein bowl which has high-protein foods from a variety of of sources: chicken, hard-boiled egg, quinoa, and beans. This of course means it doesn’t fit many special diet categories. It’s not Keto, Paleo, Plant-Based or Vegetarian. It may be OK for those on a gluten-free diet but please double check with your local Farm Boy outlet to ensure there is no hidden gluten. All that said, it sure does have lots of protein! And it tastes really good too!

Other salad varieties not pictured here include Caesar, Kale Caesar and another version of the Cobb salad.

I’ve seen these salads available in three different sizes: a single serving bowl, a 2-3 serving bowl and a family size that serves 3 – 4 (depending on appetites and the number of other dishes being served). All sizes are not always available for all the salad types. Each bowl comes with a complimentary dressing cup. If you can’t find one for your diet you can always make your own or have specialty dressings on hand. Annie’s and Daiya are two brands that have plant-based options. Primal Kitchen and Chosen Foods have dressings that are suitable for the Paleo / Keto diets. Always read ingredients carefully, especially if you are following a very strict version of your particular diet.

This article was not paid for by Farm Boy. I just really like their salads. All the ones featured here were devoured shortly after I took the photo.
