About

This Rosemary Gladstar recipe makes a delicious spread on toast or crackers. You can also add it to yogurt or nut butter, or use it on top of fruit. The cinnamon, cardamom and ginger mask the medicinal herbs completely (see below for health benefits). Rosemary is very good at coming up with recipes that allow one to take health enhancing herbs in a way that tastes great.Β This tonic is no exception.

Before using the recipe below check with your health care provider to ensure the herbs do not interact with any medication you may be taking and are not contraindicated for any health condition you may have.

Ingredients

Ashwagandha root powder (shown above) 1 part
Fo-ti root powder 2 parts
Eleuthero root powder (aka Siberian Ginseng) 1 part
Astragalus root powder 1 part
Licorice root powder 1 part
Ginger root powder 1/4 part
Cinnamon powder 1 part
Cardamom powder 1 part
Honey* to taste
Fruit juice concentrate to taste

Directions

  1. Mix herbs and spices together.
  2. Add honey and fruit concentrate a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  3. Store your tonic in a tightly covered jar away from heat and light.

Notes

  1. Let your own palette guide you when choosing a fruit concentrate. Apple and pear are good choices as their flavours will blend well with the spices.
  2. * Brown rice syrup or agave nectar can be used instead of honey to make a vegan recipe. These products are a little less sweet than honey. If you are adventurous, you could try blackstrap molasses to get some extra minerals.
  3. If you find the recipe is too sweet, try replacing some of the honey with nut butter.
  4. Herbs for this recipe can be purchased from your local bulk herb shop or online from Frontier Co-op.

Health benefits of medicinal herbs in this recipe:
