Baked Winter Squash

About
This is one of the simplest ways to prepare winter squash. It retains flavour and texture and can be used as a side dish or removed from the skin and puréed as an ingredient in other dishes (like Squash Pie – yum!). Use your choice of winter squash in the amount needed to serve your family.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 F.
- Slice squash in half (or quarters if squashes are large).
- Place skin side up on a baking tray.
- Bake until skin is shiny and a fork goes through the skin and flesh with little resistance. This will take 30 – 45 minutes depending on the size and type of the squash.
Note:
You can cook the squash at 350 F if you are preparing other foods at that temperature, but it will take a little longer to cook and the flesh will be a little more watery. A higher temperature is better for texture.
