Baked Winter Squash

About

This is one of the simplest ways to prepare winter squash. It retains flavour and texture and can be used as a side dish or removed from the skin and puréed as an ingredient in other dishes (like Squash Pie – yum!). Use your choice of winter squash in the amount needed to serve your family.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Slice squash in half (or quarters if squashes are large).
  3. Place skin side up on a baking tray.
  4. Bake until skin is shiny and a fork goes through the skin and flesh with little resistance. This will take 30 – 45 minutes depending on the size and type of the squash.

Note:

You can cook the squash at 350 F if you are preparing other foods at that temperature, but it will take a little longer to cook and the flesh will be a little more watery. A higher temperature is better for texture.
